Are residential mailboxes so different from the mailboxes used by businesses? The answer is yes and no. Yes, they are normally not as large as mailboxes found at a commerical place of work, because the sheer volume of mail going to business premises dictates very large boxes. Industrial mailboxes mostly need to be functional and ensure the security of the contents above all - sadly often above the aesthetics.

Residential mailboxes on the other hand can be whatever the person using them actually wants. When you can combine function and your own preferences and style - this means greater choice.

Residential mailboxes have endless variety in size, construction and in the manner of mounting the boxes. Many people prefer a simple mailbox that is a slot in the door or a slot through a wall. Others like their mailbox to form part of the decor of their home and many a Victorian house sports a beautiful solid brass wall-mounted mailbox.

The great thing about residential mailboxes is that sheer size and toughness is not the deciding factor only. Residential homes have more scope even when needing mailboxes for larger volumes.

If a simplistic door-slot letterbox is not suitable, they still have many options. Residential mailboxes can have extra size, or a special lockable one for parcel delivery. There are smart residential mailboxes with a special compartment for newspapers and magazines. People can choose between plastic, galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminium.

It really all depends on the volume of mail the box must hold and what the personal preferences of the home owner are. Small, large, ornate or plain; mailboxes are available for all needs and tastes.
