Mandatory mail minders - June 17, 2009
Mail boxes are a common feature around any neighbourhood. Everyone gets mail so everyone needs one. But do you really need one if you only get one or two boring bills per month? Why can’t someone just leave any parcels or bills on your doorstep?
Why do you have to waste money on post boxes when the internet has taken over? The answer is yes, you do really need post boxes, even if you only get a bill or two each month. And no, leaving them on your doorstep is not a good idea in modern society. Post boxes were invented for a reason, if we didn’t need them then they would be obsolete, but they aren’t.
Needing a letter box
Firstly, the UK has some pretty dreary weather and this weather is not kind to your mail so it is best that your mail is protected from the elements until you retrieve it. That aside, you need mail boxes to prevent mail and parcel theft. Imagine paying a lot of money for something from a mail order catalogue and never receiving it because someone stole it.
Stealing your parcels because they are left unprotected and in plain sight is one thing. All you lose then is some money. Leaving important mail and bills lying around for someone with light fingers to pick up can have much further reaching consequences.
Post boxes can protect you against identity theft. People can easily steal your identity for fraud and other purposes through getting their hands on your mail. Mail can contain sensitive and private information that you don’t want falling into the wrong hands.
