Residential mailboxes - February 16, 2009
Residential mailboxes are not only functional, but they allow a homeowner peace of mind knowing that between being delivered up until they are able to retrieve it, their mail will be held secure from both the elements and prying eyes.
Homeowners have been known to emulate their home in the form of a decorative mailbox and there are numerous styles available on the market; one only has to visit a store which stocks them to find one suited to their taste and one that is suited to their particular application.
Apart from the little house standing atop a pole and which is manufactured in the most common materials of either steel or hardwearing plastic, residential mailboxes can take any form and size. What they all have in common though is that they serve a vital function and that is that they are a receptacle which accepts and protects postal items.
Whatever shape they may take they must be at least a certain size, and some have additional slots which can accommodate magazines, or larger postal items.
Because these mailboxes usually spend their lives outside, braving the elements, it is important that they be constructed from quality materials. They also have to be accessible as most homes today are secured by gates and walls which can impede a postal worker from doing their work, so they need to be accessible with the minimum of effort.
Apart from curb side mailboxes, other types available are those that can be mounted next to a front door, or built into a wall which allows the homeowner access through the rear. There are even mailboxes with consist of only a small flap and which are fitted into the actual door itself, allowing postal items to be delivered directly into a homeowners hallway.
