Plastic Or Metal Residential Mailboxes - September 26, 2008
When it comes to choosing the type and style of residential mailbox for your home, there are several factors that should be considered. Obviously, the form and design should be such that a residential mailbox is good looking and in keeping with your home but the best residential mailbox should also offer convenience for you and the mail delivery person as well as security; it should also be robust and strong enough to stand the general rigours it will be subjected to.
Choosing between a plastic or metal residential mailbox will often be down to personal preference. Plastic is easier to form and work with so there are more unusual designs available, but the range of metal residential mailboxes available is surprisingly vast and a cast metal residential mailbox can usually be found to meet your design preferences.
Security is an obvious issue with the metal residential mailbox providing greater resilience against people attempting to steal your post. While none of us like to think about it, it should be a consideration when choosing a residential mailbox, especially one that sits solely on the exterior of the building.
Both plastic and metal mailboxes offer some protection against the elements and against general wear and tear. Again, a number of options exist that allow you to choose either material and still be confident that a plastic mailbox or a metal residential mailbox will withstand the wind, rain, and the sun without corroding or eroding over time.
