The benefits of plastics

For this reason, replacing metal with plastic is becoming the strategy in many markets.  Plastic supplies many benefits over metal plus plastic is becoming a significant leader in productivity improvement as well as a leader in product differentiation.

Plastic has and edge over metal because of its design flexibility.  It can be moulded and decorated in ways that metal cannot, and it is easy to produce dazzling colours which requires no future retouching.

Plastic reduces assembly costs because it reduces the need for highly complex parts and hand finished construction and finishes.

Plastic is warm and soft to the touch, giving an aesthetic value that metal cannot, plus it has the ability to dampen noise levels.  It is lighter than metal, is non conductive to electricity which provides an added security measure and is not corrosive.  In fact, plastic is almost maintenance free.

In comparison metal still retains some advantages though.  Metal has higher strength and rigidity over plastic and it has inherent thermal and electrical conductivity as well as an inherent resistance to flame.   But metal wears more easily than plastic and is more susceptible to damage which means it requires more maintenance and repair.
