Keeping your mail under lock and key - May 6, 2009

Filed under: Maibox Articles — admin @ 9:25 pm

Not many people pay much attention to their mail unless some titbit of good news lands on their doorstep. The rest is mostly made up of the same old bills that come and go every single month and bills don’t warrant much concern.  After all they are a burden rather than something to be protected.

If that is how you feel about and see your bills and bank statements and other mail that takes up residence in your post box a few times a month then you are in for a rude awakening. Your bills, bank statements and other mundane mail may just be the key someone needs to unlock your identity and steal it for their own purposes.

Costly information

There are lots of crimes that take time; planning and thought in order to be pulled off smoothly and then there are others that find themselves abundant because of opportunity. Opportunity presents itself in the form of your unprotected letterbox. Yes there are persistent thieves that might well try to make off with your entire post box if there is no other way to get at your information, but a locked letterbox acts as a deterrent.

Identity thieves would much more quickly plan to invade the privacy and life of someone who has a readily vulnerable post box as opposed to someone who owns a lockable mail box. Keeping your letterbox under lock and key may seem as though you are playing prison warden to your mail but the saying goes: better safe than sorry.
