Indoor Or Outdoor Post Boxes - October 15, 2008

Selecting a mailbox first requires that you make several decisions over the type of box you want. In some cases, some of these early decisions will be made for you - for example, multi occupancy mailboxes may be necessary if you live in a block of flats or a similar multi occupancy residence. In these cases you will need to decide whether or not you prefer indoor out outdoor post boxes although, again, your hand may be forced with regards to this choice.

If you do have the option then there are several points to consider. The design of the building will often lend itself towards a choice of either option. Limited exterior wall space may mean that you are tied to a specific choice while limited interior space can also mean the same lack of options exist. However, for these occasions where options are limited, bespoke mailbox design may be the best choice. Bespoke design can be custom made to fit any application and under any circumstance.

Security is often an issue when considering an outdoor post box but through wall or dual access post boxes can greatly improve security while still offering the benefits of housing your post box outdoors. The delivery slot is on the outside of the building while the mail is stored and access from inside in a similar manner to the letterbox on your front door. However, dual access post boxes are more secure and keep the mail away from the floor so keep your letters in better condition for a longer period.
